As we know there are many kinds of natural stones on earth, such as granite, marble, slate, sandstone, limestone, quartzite .etc. But marble and granite could be the most widely used natural stones in human history. Granite and related marble industries are considered one of the oldest industries in the world, existing as far back as Ancient Egypt.

What's the difference between marble and granite?

The biggest difference between granite and marble is their porosity. Basically, marble is softer and more porous than granite.

Natural Marble is a metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Marble is typically not foliated, although there are exceptions.

Natural Granite is a common type of felsic intrusive igneous rock that is granular and phaneritic in texture. Granites can be predominantly white, pink, or gray in color, depending on their mineralogy.

Due to the chemical composition difference between these 2 materials. Most of the marbles are not capable of outdoor use. But granite can withstand the weather for centuries. This is also why we don't recommend to use marble for outdoor areas.

Both marble and granite are very hard, heavy, and has a wide range of colors and patterns. Because both materials are porous, they could be stained by oily or intensely colored foods, that's why both require sealing/crystallization every so often (in usual once a year.) The coating from the sealing/crystallization can help the stones to maintain their natural beauty. Both come about through complex reactions in the earth that take millions of years, helping them achieve a look that is very much unlike any man-made material.

All in all, both marble and granite can make beautiful countertops, wall & floor tiles, sculptures and more. Both are natural and unique stones that can represent a very significant investment.
